Melik Bilgehan Taşçı’s First Solo Exhibition: “The Black Earth”

Young artist Melik Bilgehan Taşçı welcomes art enthusiasts to his first solo exhibition, “The Black Earth”, which opened on October 4, 2025, at Artsan Art Gallery in Ankara. The exhibition, open until October 15, reinterprets Anatolia’s cultural memory through the lens of contemporary art.

Developed around the theme “The Memory of the Black Earth,” Taşçı’s artistic approach transforms figures ranging from shepherds and minstrels to dervishes and villagers into symbols of a collective consciousness rather than individual portraits. His works invite viewers to rediscover Anatolia’s spiritual and cultural essence within a universal context.

By employing deformation and abstraction, Taşçı creates multiple layers of meaning within his compositions. Traditional elements such as the cloak, baglama, and herd are reimagined both conceptually and visually, gaining new relevance in today’s artistic discourse. Through this, the viewer becomes not merely an observer but a participant in the unfolding narrative.

Reflecting on his work, Taşçı states:
“The Memory of the Black Earth is not only an artistic practice but also a cultural bridge between the past and the future. Each figure, each symbol, and each story carries the shared epic of this land into tomorrow.”

Rooted in Anatolia’s deep heritage, “The Black Earth” offers a powerful and contemplative experience that connects local memory with contemporary expression, inviting viewers to look simultaneously toward the past and the future.
