Hi Andressa. We would like to get to know you. Can you tell us about yourself?
I’m from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My history with art dates back to when I was a child. I was always very involved with creative issues at school and this was my way of interacting with people. When I grew up, I became a radio producer, but it didn’t last long. I became a professional in photography and decided to invest in the visual arts to develop my work in the areas I love to work with. I never attended a single arts college or drawing course. I’m self-taught. Everything I do is for practice and challenging myself to reach a new goal. I have a lot of affinity with graphite and charcoal, even though I know how to apply watercolor as well. I like to express the beauties of wild nature and photos of people that somehow move me. I seek to share through art what I see as beautiful in life and what is worth talking about in society. Currently, I started my studies in illustration to expand the possibilities and discover a new path.

When and how did you start painting?
Professionally, I started drawing in 2020. With the Covid-19 pandemic, I went through a process of starting over in front of life. It was a challenging time for the world and I wanted to build something in my life that made sense and allowed me to seek the fullness of my soul. So I started my career as a professional artist and it worked. It’s a long road, but I’ve achieved some goals since then.

Can you tell us about your work and, what inspires you when painting?
I like to think that my artistic work should be done to share constructive ideas with people. I try to talk about what touches my heart and about topics that are important for society, for nature, and for good. I really like making art, but also the responsibility I acquired with it. Many stories of great artists inspire me, like Van Gogh. Reading his own life made him create his unique and revolutionary personality as an artist and I believe that all artists seek this connection with themselves through their intuitive work. The same goes for photography as well. Everything I believe to be necessary and useful, I share and hope that people get involved in this warmth that art provides.

What do you do besides painting?
When I’m not an artist, I’m a photographer and a bit of a writer. I like to record people’s unique moments with my camera, which is important and simple at the same time. Andressa, the writer, seeks to create stories that speak of love, humanity, a bit of comedy, and life experiences. I’ve already attended Portuguese Language College, but I didn’t pursue a career as a teacher or writer. I feel that when I need to change my thoughts and focus on new strategies, these areas help me a lot. Also, I like to be present in my family’s lives, I have a dog, and he has been a great companion. I have books to read all year round, but I like to be in contact with nature to relax and connect with Mother Earth.

Do you have any projects that you plan to realize?
Yup. For 2023, I have a visual arts project, my first one actually, to connect these areas that I love. I don’t have many details yet, but it will be something different and I hope people like the proposal.
