Hi Anamika. We would like to get to know you. Can you tell us about yourself?
I am self-taught contemporary artist, I am from Bangalore India, currently living and working in Seattle USA. I have an architecture degree and have worked as an architect for almost 2 decades, I have now committed myself to be a full-time artist.

When and how did you start painting?
Frankly I don’t remember, I have small fragments of memory of scribbling on the Wall, drawing the perfect maps in the geography class etc. I fell in love with architecture drawing when I was young and that is when I decided I wanted to be an architect. In architecture school I was introduced to painting, sculpture making, and photography, it was only then I was officially introduced to the ART world. After finishing school, got into job and found painting as an escape from the routine. 2019 was the year to mark when I did my first Show and my work sold out.

Can you tell us about your work and, what inspires you when painting?
I paint universal themes, The subjects which speak to me. I paint Architecture, I paint women, mostly in domestic scenes which can also be defined as daily feminism. I paint abstracts, I make art using random materials like waste or package material, etc. I feel like my art really shows who I am rather than what I “like”.
Inspirations are everywhere around us, colors, nature, society, etc. My inspiration comes from random places, in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes I look into myself, it is all about you taking time and looking. I look for stories that inspire.

What do you do besides painting?
I work part time as design consultant for an architecture firm in India. And rest of the time I juggle between family and art career.
Do you have any projects that you plan to realize?
Currently I am working on a series of 10-12 paintings of cityscapes in large scale.
