The III. International Gold, Embroidery and Jewelry Arts Festival, held in the historic city of Bukhara, Uzbekistan, emerged not only as an international gathering of traditional crafts but also as a prestigious platform where significant cultural diplomacy meetings took place.
Within the scope of the festival, KÜYAM (Association for Culture, Production and Management Research), representing Türkiye, contributed significantly to strengthening the cultural bridge between Türkiye and Uzbekistan through its academic and cultural engagements. Under the coordination of KÜYAM President Sıddı Zübeyde Atan Bülbül and International Art Advisor Aygül Haşimzade, Gazete Sanat followed the festival on-site and conducted exclusive interviews with prominent academics from Bukhara State University.
In these international engagements supported by KÜYAM, Prof. Dr. Navruzzoda Baxtiyor Negmatovich, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Makhmudova Nodira Uktamovna, and Prof. Dr. Gavhar Rustamovna Khidirova shared their views on the protection of Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage, cultural tourism, the future of traditional crafts, and cultural cooperation with Türkiye.
Academic Support for KÜYAM’s Cultural Diplomacy Mission
Prof. Dr. Navruzzoda Baxtiyor Negmatovich emphasized that Uzbekistan has been consistently implementing strong policies for the protection of its cultural heritage. He noted that historical monuments are placed under state protection, significant budgets are allocated for restoration, and these sites are being integrated into tourism.
Highlighting the importance of KÜYAM’s efforts in strengthening cultural dialogue between the two countries, he stated that cultural and artistic relations between Türkiye and Uzbekistan have significantly accelerated over the past eight to nine years.
He also expressed that cooperation in theatre, cinema, joint cultural projects, and international festivals will further enhance the relationship between the two brotherly nations, emphasizing a positive outlook for the future.
International Vision of the Festival
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Makhmudova Nodira Uktamovna highlighted that the main objective of the III. International Gold, Embroidery and Jewelry Arts Festival is to develop traditional jewelry and embroidery arts on a global scale.
She noted that the festival provides a platform where artists, academics, and craftsmen from different countries exchange knowledge and experience, contributing both to cultural preservation and economic development.
Makhmudova also emphasized that the involvement of international cultural organizations such as KÜYAM enhances the global visibility of the festival.
Bukhara’s Living Cultural Heritage
Prof. Dr. Gavhar Rustamovna Khidirova stated that Bukhara has been one of the most important centers of gold craftsmanship, jewelry making, embroidery, architecture, and traditional arts for centuries.
She emphasized that cultural heritage is not only preserved in museums but is also actively sustained within family traditions. From generation to generation, women have played a crucial role in preserving traditional textile embroidery, gold craftsmanship, and handmade cultural products, which remain vital elements of cultural identity today.
Khidirova also noted that with the development of cultural tourism, Bukhara has gained increasing international recognition, contributing not only to cultural preservation but also to regional economic growth.
KÜYAM’s Vision for International Cooperation
During the discussions held at the festival, it was emphasized that the protection of cultural heritage cannot be achieved solely through state policies, but requires the joint efforts of international NGOs, universities, and cultural institutions.
In this regard, KÜYAM’s cultural diplomacy initiatives play a significant role in fostering new collaborations between Türkiye and Uzbekistan in the fields of arts, academia, and cultural heritage.
The participation of approximately 150 international participants from 48 countries and more than 250 local jewelers and craftsmen from different regions of Uzbekistan demonstrated the strong international impact of the festival, to which KÜYAM also contributed.
