Three More Awards for Ayasofya History and Experience Museum and Ephesus Experience Museum

Managed by DEM Müzecilik, the Ayasofya History and Experience Museum and the Ephesus Experience Museum have been recognized with three prestigious awards from globally renowned programs. These museums, considered some of the first and finest examples of historical experience museums worldwide, were awarded three golds at the “MUSE Creative Awards,” organized by the International Awards Association (IAA), which honors successful projects in their respective fields.

The Ayasofya History and Experience Museum, which attracts visitors from all over the world, received gold awards in the categories of Exhibition Experience and Augmented Reality. Meanwhile, the Ephesus Experience Museum was honored with a gold award in the Hologram and Projection category.

The “MUSE Creative Awards,” which have been celebrating excellence and innovation in creative design, advertising, and digital media since 2016, are organized by the International Awards Association, based in the U.S. and active in 118 countries. This year, both the Ayasofya History and Experience Museum and the Ephesus Experience Museum earned three awards in total. While the Ephesus Experience Museum, located in the ancient city of Ephesus, won gold in the Hologram and Projection category, the Ayasofya History and Experience Museum, located in the Defter-i Hakani Building at Sultanahmet Square in Istanbul, received gold awards in both the Exhibition Experience and Augmented Reality categories for its innovative portrayal of Hagia Sophia’s 1,700-year history using advanced technologies.

Pioneering Examples of Historical Experience Museums

The Ayasofya History and Experience Museum is located just five minutes away from the Ayasofya Mosque in Sultanahmet Square, housed in the historic Defter-i Hakani Nezareti building. It showcases the 1,700-year history of Hagia Sophia, offering visitors a visual and auditory feast with the help of the latest technologies. The museum, which was awarded in two separate categories by the MUSE Creative Awards, presents the stages of Hagia Sophia’s construction and transformation, from the founding of the Byzantine Empire to the Ottoman era and the completion of its final structure. The museum also features an exhibition floor, where the immersive storytelling experience is enhanced by artifacts, many of which are on display for the first time.

Second Award for the Ephesus Experience Museum

The Ephesus Experience Museum is located within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed ancient city of Ephesus in Selçuk, İzmir. This museum allows visitors to personally experience daily life, architecture, and art in ancient Ephesus during its golden age. Through immersive technologies, the museum offers a rich and captivating audiovisual experience. Earlier this year, the Ephesus Experience Museum was named the best museum in the world in the field of technology, design, and exhibition by the prestigious Mondo-Dr Awards.

The implementation of Turkey’s historical and cultural wealth through the best examples of historical experience museums helps promote the country on the international stage. Both museums, affiliated with Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, were developed and managed by DEM Müzecilik, a fully local company specializing in experience design. The museums were designed by a wide team, including some of Turkey’s and the world’s leading architects, curators, designers, artists, technology experts, historians, and archaeologists. Their success demonstrates how advanced technologies can be combined with historical narratives to create unique and impactful experiences.
