Interview with Pianist Paulo Rodrigo


What is the story of how you became familiar with your instrument?

I started studying piano at the age of 5 when I got a piano from my father as a gift. Over time, my passion only increased. At 9 I already played at family parties and school at the age of 12 I already started playing professionally at social events in my country.

How do you see the interest in your musical style around the world? And what is the situation in your country?

I have a classical background but I’ve been looking for a way to popularize the piano and the musical style that I play all over the world, uniting different styles of music, going from classical to contemporary and this has worked very well. I realize that the style of music I’m making is attracting followers from several countries around the world. Here in Brazil it is no different, the public has embraced this new style and the way of playing and we are inserting the piano in places where a pianist was not seen before.

Do you know Turkey? Is there any musical artist from our country that you follow?

I don’t know it personally but it’s in the first place on the list of countries I’ll visit and play soon. Here in Brazil I remember an artist who was listened to a lot called Tarkan.

Can you tell us about any new projects you have in progress?

On January 9, I released the clip “Voando Alto” playing piano on a flying platform hoisted by a hot air balloon. It seeks to connect the public to a universe of overcoming and transformation. The purpose of the clip is to enchant and motivate the public to believe in their own potential, celebrating the human capacity to dream and conquer the most impossible dreams.
